Baouardy's parents both died from an illness in 1848, only a few days apart. Raised by her aunt and uncle she showed great religious fervor. A divine revelation a night before her wedding lead her to feel she was not called to marriage but to offer her life to God. Her uncle beat her severely for calling of the wedding. A male servant learning of her misfortune tried to woo her, she rejected his advances, upon which he flew into a rage and slashed her throat and left her for dead. Rescued by nuns, she ultimately joined a convent and dedicated her life to God. She suffered from the after effects of this accident for life and died at a young age.
