Born into a wealthy family St Alphonsa lost her mother at an early age. Her
aunt raised her. Rejecting marriage she chose to join a convent she took the name Alphonsa of the Immaculate Conception in honour of St. Alphonsus Ligouri, whose
feast day was on the day she received her veil. She spent her religious life as
a teacher. Due to severe injuries in early life, which left her disabled, she
suffered from ill health and died at the age of 35.
